Warner to talk to Google on YouTube rights-paper

Summary:  Time Warner media has just opened talks with Google regarding the use of copyrighted information on the YouTube website.  Until now, YouTube has been piecemeal with the deletion of copyrighted works - if the owner of the IP contacts YouTube, the offending media will be removed;  in other words, it stays there until it is asked to be taken down.

Reason:  The position that Time Warner and the big “traditional” media companies are taking towards Google, and YouTube, regarding the use of copyrighted works, is a big change from the way “old media” acted with Napster and the music revolution.  Instead of threatening new media companies, such as Google, these companies see that they can work with new media to produce benefits for both parties.  For Time Warner, their new shows and experiments in media can be hosted free of charge on YouTube, for millions of viewers to watch at any time.  For YouTube, this means more traffic to the site, and more opportunity to gain revenue.
